Once the spotting is determined, step 2 is to get to work. We will watch the film many times, getting a substantial impression of the entire picture. Then we will take the most critical, crucial or climactic scenes first, and let the content of the emotion or the details of the plot inspire us to craft our first musical impressions. This is, by the way, what we love most, and where the magic begins to happen. We will take our initial ideas, always derived raw from the inspiration of the picture and put together a mock up, or a music software sequenced draft, to supply the director. Once the director signs off, which often lends well to collaborative discussion, we move to the next scene (though we often work on more than one at a time, and not in sequential order), continuing in this manner until the music is composed.
